Yogurt Popsicles the easy way { Tip of the Day

Here is a quick tip the kids will love!

You know those great little tubes of yogurt you send with kids to school for lunch?  Guess what!  If you throw them in the freezer they become “popsicles” that the kids love!

We use them all the time as a way to keep our picnic lunches and lunch boxes cool instead of  an ice pack.  They also make a great after dinner dessert.

On a health note…not naming product names but be sure to check the ingredient list on the back label.  Often the big name companies load their “yogurt” with corn syrup and food coloring, leaving it as nothing by fancy candy.  Good luck even finding the probiotics that occur in real yogurt.  It is worth the extra buck or two to reach for the real deal;-)

Everyone has their “haven” in life…

Today mine is staring down a hurricane.

The one place I always feel happy and calm.

The one place where I can be alone on an isolated beach and for a few minutes and forget that I am sharing it with the world.

They are about to be hit by a hurricane.  This could mean that my little haven is about to be whacked.  I can only sit here and watch like millions of others and pray that my chunck of heaven will remain.  The Outer Banks is filled with folks that are tough.  They are normally very good at weather as a general whole.

Perhaps Earl and Jim Cantori (the Weather Channel fella. If it is a bad one he shows up in town) will decide to go away…but I doubt it.  Praying for a miracle and that my in-laws beach house will stand strong and I will try my hardest to keep my mind off of it all for the day because there is just nothing in the world a person can do to change the course of these monster storms.

Looks like we may have time to clean up this one before the next hits..sigh.  I hate hurricane season.

*** Edited to add…the beach house came through fine and at the 12th hour the storm veered right…THANK GOD!  While they have some major clean up going on they were very lucky it wasn’t a direct hit:-)

Something every professional photographer needs to hear…

I admit it.  After almost a decade of taking pictures and making my living off of this biz I am tired.
I could list my reasons but I would just sound like a whiner…and I am soooo far from being a whiner in life.

Thankfully I have been finding the time to just “shoot for me” this Summer.  To be creative again and truly enjoy shooting what “I see” again.  This has helped a bit.  Getting away from the latest industry news and not keeping up with what many other photographers are doing has been the biggest, bestest thing ever for myself, my family and my art.  I have managed to find my creativity again and seldom feel the need to share it all over the web instead opting to share it with my clients and loved ones most of the time.  At the end of the day they are the folks I care about.

Nothing has helped as much as this video post I stumbled upon today on the good old web.  I have never heard of Zach Arias…not because he isn’t amazing but again just because I have stopped keeping up with the industry to keep my head on what I am doing within my own business and life for the most part.  He basically sums it up PERFECTLY…like he is sitting in my crazy artist head.  I always joke that I totally know why Vincent van Gogh cut his own ear off…being artist can drive one nutty;-)

Anyhow…this is a must watch video for EVERY photographer and even artist.

Let’s talk websites on cell phones {iFolio coupon code

So most of us photographers have these great websites..many of us have custom sites.  For me personally I have a custom Flash site that Daryl (my amazingly talented husband) created a few years ago.  I have a thing for Flash.  I love it.  He loves it to.  I will let him give all the geeky details on the “why” if you would like to hear them but for me….I love that it is a bit harder for folks to copy my stuff off of my site.  Hands down that is my favorite reason.

Now with the advent of most of us living off of our cell phones these days I run into the problem of potential clients not being able to pull up my portfolio and info online since Flash websites do not show up on iphones and only bits and pieces of it on droid phone.  Daryl and I were getting ready to start a new website and build it in HTML 5 this go around but I have been dragging my feet because I really love my custom Flash site.  You can imagine how happy I was when iFolio came out with this fantastic product that allows me to build an iphone/droid version of my portfolio for my site!  So have I mentioned yet that this new cell phone site took me all of 2 hours to create?  I had the option to either have it automatically load when someone  visits my site from a cell phone or to have a link on an opening page.  I opted for the instant load when a cell visitor comes to my site.  I am sure I will be adding to it and changing it up often but for now I am up to a good start and so happy to have it!  Feel free to go and check out www.tishamccuiston.com on your phone to check it out!

Now if you are a WordPress user than this whole process will be super, crazy easy for you because it is a format you are already used to.  If not it they give step by step directions that made the whole process crazy easy…and trust me if I can do it anyone can!  I am not that technically savvy most days:-)

The best news of all?!

iFolios has been kind enough to offer us a coupon code to share with you guys for $20 off of your purchase!  That makes it such a great deal there really isn’t any reason to NOT do this for your business.  To take part in the coupon deal visit iFolios and use the coupon code: BRAMBLEHILL

Enjoy!
