Saturday Scraps…

A New year!!  Ok so this is not “that post”…the one where I give you guys the New Year pep talk.
That talk will be saved for Friday or Saturday and it will be good but till then there is this one.

See some of you may remember this post from back in March talking about my scrapbooking side.  Long story short I have been scrapping here and there when I get a chance but I want to start to share the crafts I do more often.  I am a girl who needs a deadline though and something to hold me accountable to do just that.  So why not a weekly Saturday Scraps series?
Since Saturday’s are always my crafting days it just works out.
“Scraps” because not all of my crafts are scrapbook related.  More like scraps of this and that!
As my mom before me and my very talented Aunt’s…I live to create.
I do miss having a craft room though and one day I will once again have one.
I will be sure to put that on my “New Year’s List”;-)

I will tell you now that I do not promise that these posts will happen on Saturday every single week…sometimes it may be Sunday or Monday before I get the chance to share.  I will indeed be sure to share though at some point.

So figured I would start with this last Saturday’s layouts!  No better place to start than the present.

Now I can hear many of my scrapping friends lecturing me on the fact that I only finished 4 in a day and if I did more of a Creative Memories style I could get all “caught up” but truth be told I am just not interested in getting caught up.
For me scrapbooking is more of each page being a little paper piece of art.
Hence why each layout takes a bit of time to figure out where I am going to put everything.
I have been known to spend hours on just one little 8×10.  So slow I know.  It is therapy though of sorts.

flip flops & pearls - Hey Girl! So glad I saw you post this on FB! I didn’t realize you had this blog. I blog WAAAAAY more than FB these days. I hope you are having a great holiday. I will def. start following your blog- come see my over at mine when you have time. Blessings to you & yours for a beautiful new year!! xxoo DaphneDecember 29, 2010 – 9:18 pm

Stephanie G - I’m excited that you’re going to post about your craftiness once a week! I have just started digital scrapbooking again after not doing any pages for most of the last year. I agree completely about the scrapbooking style…I’m slow, too, and for me it’s all about the finished page, not necessarily a completed album (I don’t really do albums) or the number of pages I get finished. It’s about the pleasure I get every time I see my photos in a pretty setting, and seeing those few moments fleshed out into a page that tells a story. I love the pages you shared here, and I can’t wait to see more of them. :) December 29, 2010 – 9:32 pm

Tisha - Daphne~ Hey lady!! So funny how many of us tend to be on our blogs more these days than FB…you are so not alone! I have added you to my Google Reader and I will be adding you to my blogroll here so I can keep up with you too! :-) Happy New Year and blogging!

Steph~ Girl I love your blog!! I just went and checked it out and added it to my reader and blogroll as well! You are really good at the digital stuff! Looks like you will be able to teach me some things about it for sure! :-) Lord knows I have downloaded enough digital scrapbooking things that you would think I could put away the scissors and glue but alas, I still love a good old fashioned scrapping mess…December 29, 2010 – 10:57 pm

tiffani sunshine - you’re scrapping again!!!! yay…love them and look forward to seeing your creations each week. i have not been blessed with the talent of scrapbooking so i shall live vicariously through you.;-)December 30, 2010 – 7:21 pm

Laura @ Our House Of Joyful Noise - Very nice layouts! (Expected….being a PRO at this too! ; ) I was going to ask what keeps you from going the digital scrapping route now, but I learned some in reading the comments I guess. When I do get back to the scrapping….I have a couple of years of boxes of photos already printed, from back in the film days. But, once I get through those, I may go to digital scrapping. But I’m not sure. I want to get AWAY from the computer more. Not be AT it more. Ok…I think I just figured that ponderment out. lol I don’t want to be sitting here more. Looking forward to the next post on this!January 1, 2011 – 10:31 pm

Why do I LOVE this image?

Cause you can just “hear the happy” right through the picture.
And just cause my stepsis and niece are too cute figured I would share a nice forward facing shot too;-)

Best. Hubby. Ever…

He is…really.
I am keeping him!

Look what Daryl picked up for me for Christmas this year!
I must have been good this year and didn’t end up on the “bag of coal” list….

Oh how he can pick them!  I am in love with my new Lola bag from Ephanie Bags.
So far it seems to hold a body, 2-3 lens and my flash all in style!  What’s not to love?

Have I mentioned I have a purse/camera bag addiction?
Something about having a cute camera bag is so nice!

I do…I admit it proudly.
So the next on my list is the Kelly Moore Posey bag and I will be set;-)

Bridget - Same addiction here! Love my Ephanie bag too… Enjoy it! =-)December 28, 2010 – 12:03 pm

Shannon Stuno - Great bag! That hubby is a keeper! :) December 30, 2010 – 10:32 am

Sandie {A Bloggable Life | 365} - I think my heart just skipped a beat. That is one gorgeous camera bag. And here I thought hubby surprising me with a new laptop for Christmas was divine. Hurry up birthday—I want that bag! ;) January 24, 2011 – 9:50 am

The random things we can’t let go of…

My father’s nutcracker…I can picture him sitting in his chair cracking walnuts…watching a John Wayne movie.
My mother’s kitchen spoon…I can picture her using it over the stove.
The last butter knife from the silverware set my grandmother gave me as a wedding present.   The other pieces have long since broken and been thrown away..this one is broken but it was…the last thing she gave to me.

They are all gone now so how does one ever part with such small tokens?
or explain why seemingly broken, rusty, old kitchen tools are still in my drawer?

But there they will stay;-)

Nan - Can’t let go of the meat fork that was my grandmother’s; the Revereware skillet that she made so many gravies in; the star cookie cutter that we used every Christmas for sugar cookies.December 31, 2010 – 4:30 pm

Tisha - Nice to know I am not alone in being one that holds onto random objects that hold memories :-) I had one of my twitter friends tell me she framed her items and placed them in the kitchen! I think I am going to try and do something like that at some point with these. Let them tell their story and be a daily reminder of how important the little things are :-) December 31, 2010 – 5:26 pm

Haley’s Chocolate Chunk Cookies { Cooking EDU

This week Haley wanted to share her favorite…and this year at the ripe old age of 8 she has now watched me make them so many times she can conquer these easily on her own!  Sounds like a fantastic cookie to me;-)

Let me start off by fessing up that I have an addiction to the annual Better Homes and Gardens and Martha Stewart cookie cookbooks.  I treasure these magazines full of yummy cookies year after year.  I find at least one or two favorites each year and we make them over and over…cause they are good!

So the thing is we stumbled on this Chocolate chunk recipe stuffed in the back of the magazine several years ago
and these are the best chocolate chip/chunk
(whatever kindof chocolate you want to throw in there)
I have ever stumbled upon!
And trust me…I have tried many a chocolate chip recipe!

[print_this]

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose baking flour
  • 11 to 12 ounce baking chocolate chips/chunks

Directions:

Start by adding in your soften butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and egg.

Add in the remaining ingredients.
By the time you get to the chocolate chips
you may need to switch over to stirring with a good strong spoon…
that is if you are like us and add a big old bag in there;-)
We prefer Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate chips…
mainly because they are perfect to eat by themselves too.

Sometimes you have to “test” them, you know, to make sure they are the perfect chocolate;-)

Drop them on  a cookie sheet and toss the sheet in the oven.
350 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes.
I prefer mine on the soft side so I tend to bring them out after they just barely turn brown on the edges.

Enjoy!
