Carpet Freshener without all the chemicals…

What’s not to love about that?!

I absolutely HATE chemical air fresheners.
First off I wish people would take the time to learn what chemicals they are actually spraying/adding into there home under the impression that somehow they are “freshening” or “sanitizing” the air.
Think I am being a bit dramatic?  Take the time to read this and then decide if you want this stuff in your home with your children inhaling it all day long.

All that said… I am a girl who still likes her home to smell nice.
Seriously…I love a good smelling home.
What is a girl to do?
It’s an easy fix and cheap too.

Grab a bunch of Baking soda and add in your favorite essential oil until the smell is as strong or mild as you like it.

I have had this box of cat litter freshener for years and now all we do is find a piece of paper and make it a funnel…
Add in the new baking soda mixture with the essential oil blended in.
It’s a very fancy method;-)

So how do I use this lovely freshener?

  • The kitty litter box
  • Sprinkle it lightly on carpet and vacuum it up
  • Sprinkle it lightly on the furniture when it gets a bit musty (we have very old furniture…lol!)… vacuum it or beat it into the fabric.
  • It can even be used in the laundry…I add a little bit in with the sheets to give it a lovely lavender smell.
  • The diaper pail

I have a thing for lavender and tea tree oil but you can really use any oil you love.
It may not work on every surface, couch or fabric but you can use your digression to figure out what it might work on best in your home.
If you would like to make an oil burner it is super easy to use essential oils with those as well!

Can’t wait for tomorrow…

This may just be my favorite photography gig to date…
I will be doing the official conference photography for The Virginia Association of Biological Farming

I will be doing a whole lot of this….

Over the next few days…and looking forward to it!
If you are making it to the conference and see the crazy girl jumping around with the camera be sure to stop and say “Hello!”:-)
Nothing like going to a conference and dreaming about actually having a real deal farm one day…
Granted I am not sure which state that “farm” will land one day but believe me when I say…
Where ever we land I will be putting roots down in more than one way!

Looking forward to learning from the experiences from all of these amazing Richmond organic farmers!

Baby+Homeschooling = a baby loose in history….

Today…oh my.
It was field trip day.  See I am a huge fan of hands on learning.
Number one reason for homeschooling has to be the “hands on” learning we do.  Real learning happens when it is fun and active…NOT by doing worksheet after worksheet.
We hit the road as often as we can.  I realized the other day that our season passes to Jamestown and Yorktown are expiring this month so it was time for one more trip.  We rotate out our season passes each year to a different attraction.  This next year, if we stay in Va, we will probably switch back to season passes with Colonial Williamsburg.

The kids and I had just finished watching Indiana Jones and the Ultimate Quest yesterday.  A fantastic look at what archaeologist do, how they do it and why.
I knew that with their interest all peeked about archeologist that going to Jamestown, an active dig site, would be a fantastic addition to learning.
Off we went…and since I am behind on my “one photo a week for 52 weeks of each kiddo” we are double purposing this post…
Sometimes a mama just has to do such things!;-)

First things first.
Disclaimer: Babies on field trips…oh so much fun.  It’s like a roller coaster ride…fun fun fun one minute and screaming the next.
But really we did have fun with him…he is a trip….even when we are on one!
He is in that “independent toddler” stage…aka PITA.

The bottle.  He took full advantage of the fact that he smelled our weakness.
He hasn’t been getting it during the day the last few days, a sippy instead, but since we knew we would need “the big guns” to keep him happy for the trip….the bottle made it into the bag.
And oh how happy he was about this fact…

So we journeyed on…

Little baby in a old church…so darn cute.
I love watching the big kids helping him out…melts a mama’s heart.

and just cause I think these are pretty…

and of course the digs…well they weren’t digging today.
Brrrrr.
I want someone to push me in a stroller and pop wheelies!  Apparently it is big fun!

Museums with a toddler?
Well it looks, or should I say sounds, something like this…

but he had big fun having us try and keep up with him…

Oh a bottle and skeletons?  Got that.

Run! Adam is home base apparently…

But then wait a minute…

He forgot something;-)

and off again…

But soon it was back to “independence”…

And sweet girl…I had to get her with her beloved wolf hat…

Then we ventured off to Yorktown Battlefield…

and then I took this last picture…

and it was over..
Baby was DONE…full on…hands and feet a thrashing…screaming like a possessed child.
“I WANT A NAP NOW!”
And back home we went…
All in all a lovely day with me and my babies.
I do love homeschooling so much. Something about it just fits us so well.
