You know that brick oven pizza that you pay a ton for because it is sooo good? Unless you are in possession of a brick oven you have to outsource that yumminess! Or do you?
Let me take a minute and change your life….You can grill your pizza on your outdoor grill and it is so over the top, crazy good it is ridiculous!
Many of you that follow along know how much I love the Artisian Bread in five minutes recipe folks (be sure to check out there blog! They share so many fantastic ideas!). I ALWAYS have the Master recipe mixed up and sitting in my fridge. We use it for everything! Rolls, loaves of bread, Naan, and now grilled pizza crust and on and on…it is truly a limitless recipe and stores for a few weeks in the fridge so we just break off the size we need and use it as we go along.
This is the recipe we used to make our grilled pizza. Figured those of you who know me well are laughing right about now and going “Only Tisha would be crazy enough to throw a pizza on a grill…but I have to know how cause if she says it is yummy…IT IS! ”
So it goes like this :
Start by preparing the Master Recipe for 5 Minute Bread. I normally let it rise for a few hours but if you are in a hurry you will be fine (with pizza crust) to just give it at least 30 minutes to rise a bit.
Roll it out. For us I used a ton of flour on our counter and used a rolling pin to roll it super thin (I knew from making the Naan this way that once on the grill it fluffs up;-) Once you have it rolled thin rub more flour on the top (I use flour instead of olive oil because oil on the grill equals fire and speeds up the cooking..at least that was my thinking). This allows you to fold it over itself so you can carry it out to the grill a bit easier.
Now for the fun part! Throw that bad boy on your nice and toasty outdoor grill! Seems so strange right? How could this possibly work? Basically that bottom side of it is going to get stiff on you within about 3 minutes and it will allow you to flip it. I suggest having two spatulas handy for the “flip”. Make sure you have all of your sauce, cheese, veggies, etc… right there because once you flip it you have to build your pizza right there on the grill (as fast as you can).
For Daryl and I we decided to create our favorite pizza…sauce, fresh sliced tomatoes, fresh sliced mozzarella (not shredded) with fresh basil leaves dropped all over the top.
Build your pizza and close the lid. It will take about 5-10 minutes for it to finish up and you will want to keep an eye on it since every grill is going to cook differently.
Now get out there and throw a pie on the grill! 🙂 Be brave! It works!
FYI~Oh and it helps if you remember to turn the darn grill off when you are done…unlike we did and now have zero gas left in the grill. It was so worth it though 😉
